This year’s theme is Opportunitas Florere – an opportunity to flourish, or thrive!
At Great Oaks Academy, we believe that human hearts and minds reflect the beauty of the content they learn and the spaces they occupy. This belief is foundational as we look forward with excitement to acquiring the Eagan future site. Our new building represents an Opportunitas Florere – an opportunity to flourish, or thrive – in a truly idyllic setting. While the layout and structure allow for incredible flexibility and affordability in renovation, the land itself provides beautiful views and a campus climate that perfectly aligns with our vision to connect students to the wonder of nature. Most importantly, the acquisition of this site removes the uncertainty about where and how our upper grades will be developed. Truly, this is a momentous time for the Great Oaks Academy community to firmly establish our roots and grow the seeds we have sown and nurtured into a unified, wondrous and learning-rich K-12 campus.
Funds raised this year will help to cover projected increases in our general education budget expenditures, including curriculum, busing, activities and special programming, lockers and desks, food services, professional services and expansion-related costs.
Why does Great Oaks Academy need funding?
The broader goal for our campaign this year focuses on acAs a non-profit charter school, Great Oaks Academy receives general education funding from the state like other public schools. We also receive about 10% through federal programs. However, public charter schools are not able to raise funds from taxpayers using bond or levy referendums like conventional, district schools. As a result, the amount we receive per student is 30% less than traditional public schools.
Because of this financial gap, we rely upon fundraising to help us achieve our mission of becoming a K-12 charter school that serves the South Metro with high quality, classical, liberal arts education. These funds not only sustain current Academy expenses, but allow us to continue to deepen the programs we already offer and develop more programs to meet our community needs.
